      Congress has ultimate authority over DC per the Constitution, and they have passed various laws that grant it a degree of local autonomy and cede emergency powers to the president. I think it was in Up First that I heard that the president can federalize the DC police for 48 hours, with possible extensions up to 30 days.

      DC is a federal district, so he actually has some legal footing here, unfortunately.

      He doesn’t have this ability in any other city.

      D.C. is a federal district. Their National Guard is under the President’s authority, not the Mayor’s. Their Metro Police under emergencies can be federalized under the President’s authority for limited periods.

      I don’t know, this is some fascist levels of policing. Not everything is a distraction, some of it is just authoritarian. But I do agree somewhat. Don’t let this make you forget about the Epstein files.
