The President singled out several other cities as potentially next for federal intervention to crack down on crime.

In news that will come as a shock to practically no one the Democrats have authored strong letters in response to the fascist threats to our cities.

      Congress has ultimate authority over DC per the Constitution, and they have passed various laws that grant it a degree of local autonomy and cede emergency powers to the president. I think it was in Up First that I heard that the president can federalize the DC police for 48 hours, with possible extensions up to 30 days.

      DC is a federal district, so he actually has some legal footing here, unfortunately.

      He doesn’t have this ability in any other city.

      D.C. is a federal district. Their National Guard is under the President’s authority, not the Mayor’s. Their Metro Police under emergencies can be federalized under the President’s authority for limited periods.
