The courts have consistently ruled that the Due Process Clause and the presumption of innocence apply to all individuals within the United States, including non-citizens, whether they are legal residents, undocumented immigrants, or in the country on visas.
Since this all started we went from owning one firearm to four, I got my permit to carry and regular do so.
As a non-Californian I used to like him but that’s because all the news coverage I saw was positive and focusing on thE “talk the talk”.
Then I started to see more that was critical of his actions and my opinion changed.
It seems like the increased attention since January over his posturing seems to have highlighted his shortcomings too.
Many parents in the US have to make a decision to both keep working and have one persons income essentially only pay for childcare or have one person stop working to be a stay at home parent until their kid(s) are school aged.
Things like this are a big contributor to population decline in the US.
We were required to take civics but I also spent 4 years of college working towards my degree and licensure as a police officer in my state.
Got all the way to our version of the hands-on academy and decided policing wasn’t for me. Now I work in IT.
Sounds like the police chief in Cottonwood Heights, Utah needs to quit and run for state legislature since they seem confused about their job. Police chiefs don’t make the laws, they enforce them because they are law enforcement officers.
I didn’t think about what matters to SCOTUS at all.
The law still matters to people and that’s what’s important. Only after we, abandon the rule of law will there be a complete breakdown of society and a descent into chaos and anarchy.
I know from all the doom posting I see on Lemmy that many don’t, but I still have hope.
The US Supreme Court can’t currently do what you say without a law change at the federal level.
Also, the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery (mostly) was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified on December 6, 1865 after the end of the US Civil War.
I hope they recover their vision. As someone who lost sight in one eye I can attest that going from binocular to monocular vision is life altering AND not considered a disability under the law Social Security requirements but typically is covered by ADA.
