So former paramedic of many years. First, pretty graphic, no need to watch if you don’t have to. Second, survivable if he got immediate direct pressure and taken right to a trauma unit for blood and surgery. I haven’t seen footage of after the shot, but I’ve seen people immediately begin to bolt, as most people in the US hearing gun fire expect a mass shooting… that’s a lot different then when I was a young dumb medic years ago.
So if he got direct pressure and was dragged to a vehicle and right to an ER, survivable with probable deficits for the rest of his life.
I also note we’ve heard zero about a dead or captured gunman.
survivable if he got immediate direct pressure and taken right to a trauma unit for blood and surgery
Interesting. I have a relative working as a paramedic at the Mayo and they put the odds of survival at less than 1% even with immediate medical care
Did you work in Chicago, or somewhere that would have had a similarly gunshot victim rate at the time? I’ve heard many of the trauma surgeons in those areas are even better than at the Mayo
Looked like it went directly through the carotid at the lower neck / upper shoulder, I would guess the max height/distance of the projected blood stream out of his neck at about 2 feet, maybe more, stream lasted maybe 2 to 3 seconds.
… I went into a PTSD shock episode after watching it a few times, and haven’t seen any footage that… would indicate anyone immediately rushed into action.
So… being an actual paramedic… could you estimate how much actual blood loss this was?
This was an actual ‘geyser’ of blood, I dunno if there’s some kind proper term for that.
He was sitting upright, shot occurs, entire body and face went completely limp instantly, jaw slack, eyes wide open, head rolls back… as the uh… blood geyser is happening.
The NSFL picture was sudden, but it was all outwards and not filling cavities. You can fill a lung with blood and survive, just not always. The body goes into shock and tries to protect the major organs.
I can’t really estimate how much blood was lost there, maybe 50-100ccs in the short video? There’s a great exercise where you can pour 100ccs of fake blood out and show how much it spreads. I’ve seen really messy superficial stabbings that made it and ones where the blood pooled internally and they didn’t.
That suspect, the older white male taken into custody, is now being reported as not the shooter.
I can’t give a precise source, hopping through live news streams… I think ‘KSL News Specialists’, they’re on the scene at UVU, got a red and white text overlay, not 100% certain that was the one.
But if that is correct and accurate, that would mean the actual shooter is currently unknown and at large, obviously ‘armed and dangerous’.
I saw a video out of Australia of two big guys trying to beat up a guy who was trying to defend himself with a knife. One of the gets stuck in the neck and dies instantly. It was like watching a real life horror movie.
You saw less than a coke bottle of blood, I’ve seen much worse and seen people survive. The key is quickly stopping/slowing the bleeding, getting to blood products to replace the loss, getting to surgery to fix the hole.
The long wars in the middle east actually taught us a lot about fixing this kind of stuff.
If he got emergency medical assistance within seconds of this happening there’s a small chance. For better and worse doctors got crazy good at keeping gunshot wounds in the field alive long enough to get surgery during the second Iraq war.
Yeah, a thing that probably happened to a dozen Palestinian kids off camera happened to a wealthy white dude on camera. Oh well, it’s cruel world and I wish it wasn’t, but not like people like Kirk ever listen to people like me.
Oh my holy god, fuck, yeah, just watched the vid, jesus fucking christ, there is essentially zero chance he survives that… oh god… welp thats enough PTSD for me today time for … right I quit cigarrettes… got a vape now… oh…
If you’re physically up for it, doing a bunch of jumping jacks hits the perfect combination of using up adrenaline and making my lungs hurt to replace emotional smoking. It’s not well received in public though.
… but I’ve seen a face transform the way his did, before.
Oh fuck, (fuck you im having a PTSD attack at the moment) yeah, those … that total limpness of the body, the slack jaw, the wide open, glazed eyes…
That is bare minimum, at the least, a massive drop in blood flow and pressure to the brain.
Brains don’t do so good without blood flow for very long.
Also could easily have severed the spinal cord, shattered vertebrae around the neck.
Possibly also now he’s down a lung.
I dunno, Stamets said it was a fairly flat trajectory, looked to be a fairly like, straight ahead, from straight in front of him shit…
I will literally start shaking and crying if I watch more videos / that video again right now, so yeah, ‘preliminary analysis’.
…
Sure, sure its maybe technically possible he lives through this, assuming he got bandaged with pressure basically immediately and then also got to an OR within like 15 minutes.
Otherwise… either dead or basically a mostly brain dead / paralyzed vegetable, would be my guess.
I am also not a doctor, and am currently having a panic attack, so, grain of salt and all that.
Hah, yeah… more or less just stream of consciousness what i… was actually saying/thinking.
Like… yeah, really more saying aloud than thinking internally, I had a visceral enough reaction to that that it was all actually spoken.
As for the formatting / syntax… once upon a time I spent way too much time in various kinds of ‘serious’ chat based RP… and I sort of invented and internalized my own somewhat unique way of conveying rapidity vs pauses, emphasis and what not.
Scott, from Kentucky Ballistics rather famously had a .50 cal explode in his face, a chunk of the gun perforated his neck and went down into his lung, and honestly. He survived and is, outwardly at least, doing pretty well. Stick a thumb in it.
I don’t know him personally, so I can’t vouch for the guy.
I think a bigger factor is that what happened to Scott was an freak accident, no one was trying to avoid an active shooter when it happened, so he was able to get aid from his father (the guy behind the camera) immediately.
That was a clean slice to the throat and the guy was conscious for several moments afterwards. Kirk took a gunshot wound into/through the neck, pretty much all the blood in his head fell out within seconds, and he immediately lost consciousness.
‘Fencing response’ is conducive with brain damage. Sudden blood pressure drop to the brain can cause that response. Practically speaking he died instantly, a neck shot like that might as well have been a head shot.
My partner guesses his sternocleidomastoid muscle must have gotten severed because his head snapped back like that. This is what keeps your head down and causes TMJ.
Video
Wow, that’s a dead nazi
Yeah, wish I hadn’t watched that.
Wow, that’s enough internet for me tonight.

There’s footage of an older white male being taken into custody. This specific video is sfw, but part of a thread that is not NSFL.
I’d recommend deleting this comment. They confirmed this man was unrelated to the shooting and was let go
NYT recently reported this isn’t the shooter and this guy was released. He is just some random guy who is not involved.
That suspect, the older white male taken into custody, is now being reported as not the shooter.
I can’t give a precise source, hopping through live news streams… I think ‘KSL News Specialists’, they’re on the scene at UVU, got a red and white text overlay, not 100% certain that was the one.

Appreciate the update. Guess we’ll see what shakes out.
Hey there, shit, you found a ‘print’ source, good work!
…got more updates in the previous comment.
Larry David?
Damn.
His last words on this earth, “violence”.
Poetry.
Ok, I don’t condone this but…that was a pretty good shot.
Yeah, he’s done. If you don’t want to watch it, just know that it is an anime level of blood loss in a split second.
When it comes out chunky you know it’s bad.
What a terrible shooter. His head is hard to miss.
That’s brutal. This kind of adventurism will not help revolutionary aims in the long run.
Anyone got a mirror? Link is already dead.
Try this
Thanks, this one works. It’s graphic, though sadly I’ve seen worse videos when combat footage from Ukraine was first coming out.
Why did you write “not NSFW”?? Thats very much NSFW…
Ooops…Fixed
Hooooly fuck I didn’t know blood could flow out of a human like that
I saw a video out of Australia of two big guys trying to beat up a guy who was trying to defend himself with a knife. One of the gets stuck in the neck and dies instantly. It was like watching a real life horror movie.
The internet is a terrible place
You saw less than a coke bottle of blood, I’ve seen much worse and seen people survive. The key is quickly stopping/slowing the bleeding, getting to blood products to replace the loss, getting to surgery to fix the hole.
The long wars in the middle east actually taught us a lot about fixing this kind of stuff.
That one worked for me, although I kinda wish it hadn’t. Holy fuck. Rest in piss Charlie.
I just checked, it’s still up. The link that is.
Still works for me
Heads up SUPER NSFW
Please extra NSFW for graphical violence.
Holy fuck
Pretty much encapsulates it
Yeah that was bad bad. Jesus
I was not prepared for how graphic that was
Extremely unlikely he survived, that shot severed a carotid artery.
You can lose about 2L of blood and I just saw more than that come out of him
If he got emergency medical assistance within seconds of this happening there’s a small chance. For better and worse doctors got crazy good at keeping gunshot wounds in the field alive long enough to get surgery during the second Iraq war.
Narrator: But he did not, in fact, receive such timely attention and expired.
Ah well, anyway.
Yeah, a thing that probably happened to a dozen Palestinian kids off camera happened to a wealthy white dude on camera. Oh well, it’s cruel world and I wish it wasn’t, but not like people like Kirk ever listen to people like me.
Yeah… its more or less all about reaction time, from people with good training and equipment.
It sounds stupid and cliche or trope-y but… literally, every second counts.
Hah, I’ve not heard that, I will try it…
…as soon as I recover from crippling injuries.
I got a bunch specific PT excersises though, thats a good idea, just work out through it.
Eh, you’d be surprised what people can survive. Check out the goalie that got his throat slit on the ice. Buuuut here’s for hope’n.
I mean, I despise Kirk as a person…
… but I’ve seen a face transform the way his did, before.
Oh fuck, (fuck you im having a PTSD attack at the moment) yeah, those … that total limpness of the body, the slack jaw, the wide open, glazed eyes…

It’s wild how you transmitted the feeling of having a panic attack in your text
Hah, yeah… more or less just stream of consciousness what i… was actually saying/thinking.

You weren’t around during the rotten.com days? This is rather tame by comparison.
Oh no, I was.
I am still literally traumatized by some of the shit I saw there, as well as… stuff that has happened to or very near to me, in the real.
Scott, from Kentucky Ballistics rather famously had a .50 cal explode in his face, a chunk of the gun perforated his neck and went down into his lung, and honestly. He survived and is, outwardly at least, doing pretty well. Stick a thumb in it.
Yeah but he has the benefit of being a decent human, so people don’t actively want him dead
I don’t know him personally, so I can’t vouch for the guy.
I think a bigger factor is that what happened to Scott was an freak accident, no one was trying to avoid an active shooter when it happened, so he was able to get aid from his father (the guy behind the camera) immediately.
So yeah, you’re probably right.

The “fencing response” was a surprise. Doesn’t that indicate severe neural damage? Spinal cord hit perhaps?
‘Fencing response’ is conducive with brain damage. Sudden blood pressure drop to the brain can cause that response. Practically speaking he died instantly, a neck shot like that might as well have been a head shot.
George Orwel got shot through the throat ina similar fashion during the Spanish Civil war and survived. So Kirk could theoretically survive this
Well, he didn’t, so Orwell was either luckier or made of sterner stuff… or had a more competent medic immediately nearby.
Plus, he wasnt a complete prick.
My partner guesses his sternocleidomastoid muscle must have gotten severed because his head snapped back like that. This is what keeps your head down and causes TMJ.
^ This.
That guy survived because the medical trainer was a Vietnam vet who shoved his fingers in there to pinch it shut. I don’t see that happening here
Also, skate blade makes a much cleaner cut than a bullet. A lot less collateral damage too. Not to mention whatever the exit wound looks like.
Maybe don’t recommend that to them right now
I appreciate you =]
I’m doing a bit better now.
