So former paramedic of many years. First, pretty graphic, no need to watch if you don’t have to. Second, survivable if he got immediate direct pressure and taken right to a trauma unit for blood and surgery. I haven’t seen footage of after the shot, but I’ve seen people immediately begin to bolt, as most people in the US hearing gun fire expect a mass shooting… that’s a lot different then when I was a young dumb medic years ago.
So if he got direct pressure and was dragged to a vehicle and right to an ER, survivable with probable deficits for the rest of his life.
I also note we’ve heard zero about a dead or captured gunman.

Interesting. I have a relative working as a paramedic at the Mayo and they put the odds of survival at less than 1% even with immediate medical care
Did you work in Chicago, or somewhere that would have had a similarly gunshot victim rate at the time? I’ve heard many of the trauma surgeons in those areas are even better than at the Mayo
Looked like it went directly through the carotid at the lower neck / upper shoulder, I would guess the max height/distance of the projected blood stream out of his neck at about 2 feet, maybe more, stream lasted maybe 2 to 3 seconds.
… I went into a PTSD shock episode after watching it a few times, and haven’t seen any footage that… would indicate anyone immediately rushed into action.
So… being an actual paramedic… could you estimate how much actual blood loss this was?
This was an actual ‘geyser’ of blood, I dunno if there’s some kind proper term for that.
He was sitting upright, shot occurs, entire body and face went completely limp instantly, jaw slack, eyes wide open, head rolls back… as the uh… blood geyser is happening.
The NSFL picture was sudden, but it was all outwards and not filling cavities. You can fill a lung with blood and survive, just not always. The body goes into shock and tries to protect the major organs.
I can’t really estimate how much blood was lost there, maybe 50-100ccs in the short video? There’s a great exercise where you can pour 100ccs of fake blood out and show how much it spreads. I’ve seen really messy superficial stabbings that made it and ones where the blood pooled internally and they didn’t.
That suspect, the older white male taken into custody, is now being reported as not the shooter.
I can’t give a precise source, hopping through live news streams… I think ‘KSL News Specialists’, they’re on the scene at UVU, got a red and white text overlay, not 100% certain that was the one.
But if that is correct and accurate, that would mean the actual shooter is currently unknown and at large, obviously ‘armed and dangerous’.

There’s footage of an older white male being taken into custody. This specific video is sfw, but part of a thread that is not NSFL.
I’d recommend deleting this comment. They confirmed this man was unrelated to the shooting and was let go
NYT recently reported this isn’t the shooter and this guy was released. He is just some random guy who is not involved.

Appreciate the update. Guess we’ll see what shakes out.
Hey there, shit, you found a ‘print’ source, good work!
…got more updates in the previous comment.
