I wanted to install Aeon. In a youtube video, the dev said it’s increadibly easy. It even asks if you want to backup existing users and it leaves their home folder as is. This info was backed up by the docs.
Once I clicked on “install now” it reminded me that there is no back once it starts installing the system. I clicked on OK because usually the installation process starts at the end of the configuration phase.
It then loaded and I fearing that it really erases everything. I stopped the process by shutting down the computer.
The computer does not detect any filesystem. It should be ext4 if I remember correctly. fsck yields no result. It suggests using two different blocks but with no success. I can’t mount anything. Hence I also can’t fix grub.
Did I just erase my disk within one second? If so, I can just continue. If not, I’d like to backup some stuff. (Most is backed up, but not the most recent stuff)
From the docs of this OS I have never heard of before
If you were prompted to backup users it definitely wasn’t ext4 lol you probably corrupted your btrfs filesystem
Thanks!
Good to know that I just deleted the last months because I missed reading the fineprint.
Edit: it is 100% my fault. I don’t blame someone else for my data loss.
This just shows that there is still room for improvement in the installation process.
Yeah maybe they could stop you turning your PC off while it’s writing to disk
They can’t stop me!
