President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order mandating that federal authorities clarify whether college athletes can be considered employees of the schools they play for — attempting to create clearer national standards for the NCAA’s name image and likeness program.
What federal authorities is he directing to do this? It seems to me maybe the department of education would do this , but hey he got rid of that agency.
Maybe NASA can do it….
I’m assuming the states? Even then, the US is just waay to big to enforce at the rate he is trying to shirk it at a federal level.
States by definition are not federal.
What the Trump critter doesn’t get is executive orders are not laws.
I am fully in support of athletes getting paid for the money they bring to schools. It’s basically a blue collar job where they ignore classes but work their asses off in practice and training. In exchange for ruining their bodies in the gamble that they’ll make it pro, the school should pay them for that labor.
It is weird how it applies to foreign students, though. Purdue had the best player in college with Zach Edey who was from Canada. He was not eligible to get paid while his much less famous and less talented teammates were. He eventually had to do a weird deal where he signed an endorsement contract while in Canada that paid him there.
I am wondering WHY Trump is focusing on this. Is there some backdoor way he could make this an anti-DEI thing if the kids are considered employees of the school? Is he trying to force colleges to play more white athletes? I cannot imagine this having no ulterior motive.
Probably just more misdirection from the Epstein stuff. This is easy points to his base
Simple - colleges are against it, it is a popular gripe. Easy points and further hurts his enemies- the colleges.
Basically a good thing for the wrong reasons.
