I’m a long term user of SurfShark, and was using Air VPN before that, but moved over for better usability. Every year when my sub is coming to an end I check out alternaitve VPNs to see if I’m still using the one that works best for me. I have just gone through that process this year and SurfShark still appears to be my best option with Proton a very close and acceptable 2nd.
I need the service to have a native Android TV app, for usabilities sake, as my partner needs to be able to use the TV and isn’t as tech savvy. She would be put off by having to use Open VPN etc. I also need/want good speed and low (enough) latency.
The only ones that meet my requirements are SurfShark, Proton, Windscribe and Mullvad. Though please tell me if I have missed any.
Windscribe is far too slow, less than half the speed of SS and Proton. Mullvad, was also very slow and I don’t like its implementation of split tunneling. Which leaves SS and Proton. They are about the same speed, but Proton refuses to remain connected indefinitely on Android TV, whereas SS does.
I’ve heard many people argue SurfShark isn’t a good choice for the privacy concious, but can anyone articulate for me why it’s a worse option. I’d be prepaired to stick with Proton if a compelling argument can be made. But it’s usually on Reddit I see the argument made, and justification is rarely given.
Thanks.
