Trump on Sunday pushed the Washington Commanders NFL team to return to its previous name, which was scrapped five years ago because it included a word that many view as a slur against Native Americans.

The president also threatened to block a complicated deal for the Commanders to return to a stadium in Washington, D.C., unless they return to the name “Washington Redskins.”

“The Washington “Whatever’s” should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this,” Mr. Trump wrote.

TIL that the Washington football team is from Washington D.C., not Washington State.

I also recently learned that the Pentagon also isn’t located in Washington state. This shit needs a disambiguation page for real life.

Football teams are generally named after the city they’re in, not the state. The state of Washington is home to the Seattle Seahawks.

With the exception of the New England Patriots, who are named after a whole region because they wanted somewhere cheap to build a stadium and no one outside of the region knows where Foxborough is.

To cloud the issue further, The Pentagon is in Virginia and The Washington Football team plays in Maryland and practices in Virginia.

Also the last time the New York Giants played in New York City was 50 years ago.
