Thats “modern webdesign” - I never understood this. I don’t get why the main content on the landing page has to be an image. I also don’t like onepagers in most cases. And I often land on pages of companies where I can’t find out what they’re doing because it’s all marketing buzzwords.
In general I agree with you, especially on the image part, but I found the opensuse page to be a decent variation of this.
