Sure they might pick up some organisms but I assume the vast majority of the ones big enough to actually get picked up can easily escape, and the smaller ones just pass whatever filters it has and get thrown out with the water

Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good. Yes, we’re picking up small organisms, but we also need to get the plastic cleaned up.
