Developers at Arkane Studios in France have called on their parent company, Microsoft, to stop supporting Israel during its ongoing war in Gaza, which a UN Special Committee said was “consistent with the characteristics of genocide.”

The open letter published online (via Game Developer) is addressed to the “heads of Zenimax, Microsoft Gaming and the overall Microsoft group.” It says that the ongoing situation in Gaza and Microsoft’s work with Israel could “affect our reputation and work” and asks Microsoft to take the “appropriate measure” to resolve it.

It joins the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) movement, which has set Microsoft as a priority target of its boycott. BDS specifically mentions Microsoft’s gaming division and Game Pass among its boycott targets.

Boycott AMD, Intel and ARM. They have offices in Israel like Microsoft and sell Israel the hardware used to kill Palestinians.

Man, Arkane is not sitting in the position they were before. I’m glad they’re doing this, but I worry that this is only going to get more of their studios shut down.

Much of Arkane is in Europe (specifically France) where workers rights sort of exist. Arkane Austin is already dead as of last year. So it will take a bit of effort for phil spencer et al to kill them.

That said? They also likely already know they are on the chopping block and figure they might as well speak their minds (and get some good will) in the hopes of being able to get funding for whatever comes next.

Unfortuantely microsoft does not care. They will happily fire dissenters. Respect those willing to speak out all the same.
