I am as lonely as someone can get. But chatting with an LLM is where I draw the line. But honestly, I get the impulse, loneliness hurts bad…

There are enough lonely people who are burning to have a chat online. Don’t give in to this mental and psychological masturbation.

I was in the “talking to an AI feels weird and dehumanizing” camp but then I actually did it and my discomfort quickly went away. Don’t think of it as a perfect substitute for talking to other people, but rather as a unique activity that is interesting in its own way.

(Just to be clear: I’m referring to talking to an AI when you feel lonely, not to dating an AI. The technology isn’t good enough for the latter yet, unless you have very low standards.)

The worry is not about it feeling awkward, the worry is about it not feeling awkward.

People have a tendency to let what appears to be external thinking to influence them. To reinforce good perspectives, to correct bad perspectives.

When you spiral into bad behavior, the LLM will happily keep validating you on your journey to where you shouldn’t go.

My issue with chatting with LLMs is that the chats are not private and I sure as hell don’t trust the tech companies to not use my deepest secrets to sell me shit.

We live in this dystopia where economics matter more than anything human.

The only time I’ve had an extended “conversation” with an LLM was when I was trying to get DeepSeek to talk about Taiwan’s independence. At no point did it ever feel like I was talking to a human. It felt a lot more like I was “hacking” it than I was chatting with it.

It’s sad that there are humans so starved for human contact that they’ll talk to an LLM as if it were a person. But, it’s even more sad that there are people who can’t distinguish the slop an LLM puts out from things a human says.

I don’t think you’re in a position to judge if you’ve never even attempted to talk to an LLM in good faith. I’m not saying it’s indistinguishable from a human (it’s definitely distinguishable) but if you’re open minded then you may be able to appreciate it for what it is

Why would anybody want to “Talk to an LLM in good faith”?

I don’t need to eat shit to know that I wouldn’t want to eat shit.
